Mental health: psychotic symptoms

For many mental health experts, psychotic symptoms stem from a ruptured selective attention. Humans have the ability to pay attention to certain stimuli-signal-ignoring other similar non-noise-we are interested. For example, at a party can choose a particular conversation and focus on it without what they say prosecute persons who may be even closer than those who have decided to listen.

According to supporters of the hypothesis lack of selective attention, schizophrenics are unable to make such a filter.
In this sense, Constance Holden, of the University of Maine, has compiled experiments indicate that those suffering from schizophrenia have difficulty ei eliminate irrelevant material and keep the material relevant to a given problem.

So irrelevant stimuli-the raindrops on a window, repeating a particular word in a conversation, the chances striking-can distract its attention from the global scene contemplating or message from someone who is speaking.
