How plaque is formed?

There is a bacterium called Streptococcus mutans, in a healthy mouth is found in small quantities, but when you eat more sugar than usual, increasing the number of bacteria and form an acid that attacks the outer layer of the tooth is enamel.

The sugar helps, too, that the layer becomes sticky, so the acid adheres to the teeth, extending the damage and making it possible to start the formation of cavities.
