Although hardly believe in the accident suffered by the Space Shuttle Columbia in 2003 there were survivors.A report released by scientists at the Ames Research Center of NASA has confirmed. This is about nematodes-Caenorhabditis elegans, tiny worms 1 mm in length travelling in an aluminum capsule as part of an experiment whose objective was to study their growth and reproduction in space.
Apparently, while the shuttle disintegrated in the atmosphere during its return trip, animals left dismissed from the ship and hit against the Earth with a force 2,295 times that of Earth gravity.
Unfortunately, the astronauts perished. The discovery demonstrates that small life forms could survive re-entry into our atmosphere.
