What is the PAP Papanicolau?

The term PAP is a reduction of the name George Papanicolau, recognized researcher of Greek origin who-working in the U.S.-developed method pesquisa citológica for the early detection of cervical cancer (cervical cancer).
This remarkable scientific ended a serious disease that caused the death of most of presentaban women who, because of the lateness of diagnosis by the low (or no) symptoms of curable stages.

The PAP is the observation under a microscope of cells present in secretions of the cervix. These secretions are obtained during the gynecological examination, using a vaginal speculum, and the soft scraping of the cervix with a wooden spatula. The maneuver is absolutely painless and takes place in seconds.

Results
The study of cells arise various diagnostic possibilities:

• That these are completely normal (PAP Class I).
• That there is an inflammatory process (PAP Class II).
• That there is a pre-cancerous lesions (PAP Class III).
• That there is strong suspicion that a process has begun cancerous (PAP Class IV).
• That we are in the presence of a cervical cancer (PAP Class V).

Because of that, sometimes, at an early date to menstruation a Pap test results can give a kind of inflammatory or Class II without there actually an inflammation, many laboratories prefer not to discriminate between classes I and II, simply calling them both " negative. "
Many women are frightened because, after several PAP I, II got a result. Thus away a reason (usually unfounded) concern.

A properly trained gynecologist should be able to read the full report and obtain the necessary information to confirm or exclude the presence of inflammatory processes.
