Some 1.8 million children under five die each year from diarrhea in the countries of middle and low income, according to estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO). Almost half of these deaths are due to dehydration. A recent research I discovered that oral hydration is as effective as intravenously, so it should be chosen as the first therapeutic option.
However, although the oral method is effective and cheaper, their use is less widespread than intravenous therapy. The researchers explain that oral hydration (with dropper, for example) is not as popular because it is believed that his administration needs more time and effort, when the reverse. "The review has shown that oral therapy is less expensive than intravenous and is associated with fewer days in hospital the baby," she indicated.
When given by mouth, is a less traumatic for the baby and may ask questions at different locations, even at home. Dehydration occurs when the amount of water that has the body to function is reduced either by vomiting, diarrhea or excessive sweating, which causes dry skin, headaches, eye sink, dizziness and confusion.
